BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND NOT TO BE MISSED
The three religious buildings belonged to the Dominican Fathers who settled here in the 15th century on what was formerly known as the Bayota plain, where city games and mock battles took place.
The convent was founded next to the pre-existing Chiesa del Santo Spirito, and the adjacent Oratory of the Holy Rosary, of which fascinating, if abandoned, celestial and white stucco decorations remain today.
Today, on the remains of the convent stands the House of the well-known writer Giuseppe Antonio Borgese, home to the Foundation dedicated to him.
The elegant stone portal in Gothic style of the Chiesa del Santo Spirito, visible from the square of the same name, and its side aisle in Neoclassical style, visible from Via Santo Gagliardotto, now housing a unique playground surrounded by the ruins themselves.
