The Archaeological Museum houses splendid and unique funerary artefacts representing important examples of Hellenistic art.
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND VISIT ROUTE IN BRIEF NOT TO BE MISSED
The museum includes an important collection of artefacts, dating from the 2nd to 4th century BC, found during excavations conducted in 1992 by Professor Amedeo Tullio upstream of the town of Polizzi Generosa, where the remains of a Hellenistic necropolis were found, bearing witness to the town's ancient and important origins.
Among the treasures on display are lively terracotta statuettes that tell of the ancient religious beliefs of the time, bronze works such as jewellery or athletic instruments of the ancient inhabitants of Polizzi, ornate terracotta oil lamps and ceramic amphorae typical of the Magna Graecia style.
The splendid amphora depicting Hercules, who here fights the lion during one of his twelve labours, and
the 'guttus', an incredibly unique and rare precursor of modern baby bottles, equipped with an anti-suffocation ball, dating back to the 3rd-2nd century BC, and the vase.
