A collection that showcases local craftsmanship and recounts Sicilian daily life from the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century through the art of toys.
The museum was created thanks to acquisitions of toys from the private collections of Polizzi's noble families. These toys catapult us into humble peasant dwellings or sumptuous aristocratic mansions through miniature houses and furnishings. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous models of furniture, which cabinetmakers and carpenters used to present to noble patrons in the 18th and 19th centuries, before they were made, and which were then used as toys by their children. Also noteworthy are the elegant, sometimes mechanical papier-mâché animals, one of the first German-made carillons from the late 19th century and the first sewing machines, which are still in perfect working order. Prominent among the foreign artefacts is one of those old wooden jointed dolls that were rarely used for playing and were considered so ornamental that they were kept under a glass bell.
