Overlooking the peaks of the Madonie Mountains and the rich valley below, the church is the first sacred building one encounters when entering the village from the east.
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Until 1549, this place housed the headquarters of the Dominican Friars. Thereafter, the church, with the adjoining convent, passed to the Carmelites, who remained there until 1866. VISIT ROUTE IN BRIEF NOT TO BE MISSED
Today the church is the seat of the Deputation of the Holy Cross.
The single-nave church houses several valuable works, including the painting of the Madonna del Carmine by De Matta, a precious Baroque altar by Quattrocchi, and the 17th-century wooden crucifix from the school of Frate Umile, celebrated at the beginning of May.
The 17th-century sculpture depicting Ecce Homo by Francesco Gallusca, with its impressive and exaggerated realistic appearance, unique in Europe, and its wax relief finish of blood.
