The church is one of the examples of Polizzi Generosa's charitable history of mutual aid.
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND VISIT ROUTE IN BRIEF NOT TO BE MISSED
The church was named because, until the 17th century, it was originally located close to the city walls, near one of the city gates, and because it was responsible for collecting alms to help prisoners and ransom Christians enslaved by Muslims.
With a single nave, the exterior façade with rhomboid geometric motifs in red is particularly impressive.
The marvellous painting "Return of the Holy Family from Egypt" from 1620 with the inscription "relatio pueri" at the bottom with a double meaning: that of the return of the child and that of the return of the slave.
