The museum contains a permanent collection of ancient artefacts, tools and objects of everyday life and is the result of a long and passionate commitment by Dr Alfino Zafarana and his sister, Professor Giuseppina Zafarana.
The museum takes us back in time through authentic artefacts that capture the essence and stories of a bygone era, enriched by carefully and skilfully curated panels and displays depicting real working or domestic corners. In addition to ancient agricultural tools, we find works of art by Sicilian painter Giambecchina, poems exploring local history, and quotations from essays by scholars such as Pitrè and Antonino Buttitta. Rare documents and seemingly unassuming objects offer us a valuable insight into a vanished way of life, such as looms for making textiles or war mementos like gas masks and medals. Panels dedicated to the agricultural and pastoral history of Polizzi, also dating back to 1861, are the work of local historian Francesco Saverio Ajosa. Handicrafts are celebrated with pictures of old tailor's shops and information on weaving collected by Pitrè, together with the original recipe for sfoglio, which has gone beyond the borders of Italy. These testimonies are not only historical material, but also recount the lives and labours of people of the past and catapult the visitor into a world of precious although humble craftsmanship.
