The church, with the adjoining convent now a private home, was the last of the three seats of the Capuchin Fathers.
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND NOT TO BE MISSED
Although we do not know the year of foundation, we do know that the Capuchin Fathers moved there in 1640 and remained until the suppression of religious orders in 1866. Some time later, a large part of the roof collapsed and the works of art stored there were lost.
The Capuchins cared for the sick and gave assistance to pilgrims.
Next to the Church is the Vicolo dei Morti (Alley of the Dead), so named because a window opened onto the Church crypt where the monks were buried and mummified.
The church today presents an impressive single-nave open space inside due to the lack of a roof. The inhabitants of Polizzi like to call it "lo Spasimino" because of its resemblance to the great church of the Spasimo in Palermo, with its missing roof, although
