A pilgrimage destination and place of worship at the foot of Polizzi Generosa where, in 1260, the patron saint Gandolfo stopped and performed his first miracle before arriving at the city.
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Situated on the slopes of the headland on which Polizzi stands, the hermitage was built around 1320, the year in which the Saint became protector of the town, on the site where his first miracle occurred. In the 18th century, the building was then rebuilt nearby in a more stable area.
Today it has a single-nave church, where a statue of the saint stands, and an annex where the caretaker who looked after the hermitage and the cemetery behind it lived in the 19th century.
