Entering the forest gate, you begin your journey through a mixed forest of Black Pine, Deodar Cedar and Atlas Cedar. Along the way, take a closer look at the endemic plants of the Madonie, including numerous wild orchids, some of which are unique to this region. Passing through the forest, you will find yourself facing the beautiful landscape of the Quacella Amphitheatre. Continuing the ascent, you will come across the entrance to the Abies path, signposted at the elbow of a hairpin bend. The safe and well-marked route offers unparalleled views of the local flora. When you encounter the first Abies nebrodensis, you will be confronted with an exceptional endemic species of the Madonie Park. These Sicilian firs, distributed between 1400 and 1600 metres above sea level, represent a unique population, concentrated between the Vallone Madonna degli Angeli, Monte Scalone, and other protected areas of Polizzi Generosa. The habitat of Abies nebrodensis is extremely rich and varied, the result of centuries of interaction between man and nature. Here you will find exceptional biodiversity, with young Abies seedlings growing naturally thanks to the protection and conservation of the area. This trail offers not only an invigorating walk but also a unique opportunity to take a closer look at the environmental conservation efforts and biological richness of the Madonie Mountains.
