SLOW FOOD ASSOCIATIONS AND CRAFTS

Polizzi Generosa, this enchanting corner of Sicily, will amaze you with its excellence, from Slow Food associations to arts and crafts.
The Slow Food-certified Badda Bean and Polizzi Pepper, precious gastronomic treasures, encapsulate the richness and uniqueness of Sicilian flavours.
The fine art of ceramics and the delicacy of lacework are living expressions of Polizzi craftsmanship.
And then there’s the Verbumcaudo Social Cooperative, which is truly a symbol of redemption for a generation that has decided to fight stubbornly for the right to remain in their own land and work with dignity.

Each excellence is not only an expression of authenticity and tradition, but also tells stories of passion and dedication that are waiting to be discovered.

Giuseppe Antonio Borgese, in 1921, speaking of the wonders of Calinni (Polizzi Generosa), imagined a future rooted in the "good land of Italy" and its agricultural virtues, far from heavy industrialisation.
It conjured up images of ripe fruit for jams, thick rich honey and succulent tomatoes, symbols of an abundance that could be turned into quality preserves.
This spirit still lives on in the excellences of Polizzi Generosa, where the Badda Bean, the Polizzi Pepper, the art of ceramics and lace-making also represent a commitment to the preservation of local authenticity and natural wealth.

BORGESE GENIUS LOCI...

"He really had a business idea. His future lay in the good earth of Italy, in agricultural work, not in the metallurgical industry with iron costing an arm and a leg. At Calinni, there was fruit for jam, honey dense with fragrance (which made a laughing stock of that calloused, canary-yellow water known as Alpine honey), tomatoes with pulp tightly cut for its own abundance, like the meat of spectacular sucklings. A consortium of owners could be formed for the production of canned goods [ ...].
If I was in Calinni for Pentecost! To pay the deposit for the beans that this year, if you don't buy them now, then when they are dry you pay through the nose".
